The Villa Catignano, built at the end of the seventeenth century and immersed in the green Tuscan countryside, is not more than eight kilometres from Siena.
It is a typical residence of the gentility set into the sienese Chianti hills. There you will find the evocative and romantic formal Italian garden, the 'English copse', and an avenue of cypresses that, between the many olive trees, leads you to the swimming pool from where you can admire views of Siena and its surroundings in the distance.
The antique 'Tinaia', adjacent to the Villa and internally restored with vaulted ceilings and a terracotta floor, is perfect for wedding buffets, receptions, meetings and dinners or breakfasts, accommodating up to 120 people.
From there you can ascend to a large terrace where there is even more space at your disposal.
There is ample space to organise aperitifs in the garden, lunch in the villa's courtyard or in the old 'Tinaia'.
How about an open-air bar on the terrace, the dance in the ‘Tinaia’... while the purity of the Tuscan architecture and the play of shadows between the lemon trees and the sculpture in the garden do the rest to create an atmosphere for your big day that will be unforgettable.
Wedding guests are of course free to help and organise should they desire to do so, however, we are more than willing to offer our expert advice as wedding planners should you wish, or just suggest alternatives for example for catering, music during aperitifs, dinner and after dinner, and not forgetting photographers and florists.
Guests may stay, and have at their disposal the eight apartments that comprise the main part of the Villa Catignano or, for numbers over 19, we also have apartments and rooms in the adjacent structure, the Fattoria (the old farmhouse and buildings).
Accommodation in both buildings can be booked according to your wishes and if desired, or necessary, the entire complex can be let out exclusively.
Neither do we lack evocative locations for the celebration of the marriage ceremony. Should you desire a few suggestions, remember that not far from the Villa Catignano (5 km) you will find the beautiful Certosa di Pontignano, which you'll reach by a truly romantic road that winds through olive groves and vineyards and typical Chianti buildings, or, of course, you can choose from amongst the many churches to be found in the heart of Siena, the city of the Palio, noted as one of the most beautiful in Italy and rich with history, art and culture.
Alternatively the Palazzo Comunale, evocatively framed by the Piazza del Campo, 'the living room of Siena', houses rooms where you can celebrate civil ceremonies.
In the antique private chapel, adjacent to the Villa, also erected in the seventeenth century, you can hold ceremonies for Anglican or Protestant faiths, while symbolic ceremonies or blessings may be held within the evocative framing of the statues of the four seasons, which have graced Italian gardens since time immemorial.
